Rock Creek Ranch Roping
February 1, 2025
We will start roping at 10:00 AM. Check-In Opens at 9:00 AM.
General-SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Cowboy attire required. Scotch caps are permitted in place of a cowboy hat.
We will take 50 teams. Each team is made up of 3 ropers. Each person may only enter up to 3x and no two teams may be the same. You may pick or draw your team(s). Entry fees are $450/team ($150/man/entry).
Rodear line will be chalked. Critter will be called and time will start when the first rider crosses the line. Each team will sort out critter and hold rodear until critter is necked. Each team will have 3 minutes to make a successful head catch, and 4 minutes total per round. Time stops when head and heel ropes are strung, clean and tight, ground man is off critter, and has called time. Any run that "times out" will receive a time of 4:01 and 0 points. Two rounds will consist of a Team Doctoring and two rounds will be a scored Fancy Loop Roping. Each Team is guaranteed four (4) runs. The best combination of time and points for all four rounds will win. We will pay four places. The following rules apply to both the Team Doctoring and the Fancy Loop Roping unless otherwise stated.
Rules & Definitions
1. One Rope Only Only one rope per team member is allowed when riding into the arena.
2. Broken Rope If a rope is broken, it may be replaced by an outside rope . Broken rope must be removed from the critter and out of the arena before time stops to be a qualifying run.
3. Each Team Member must head in a round. After all three team members have necked a critter, final round is open. If a legal head catch is made but the run times out, the catch does not count for the header of that round.
4. Wrong Critter Rope must be removed and roping will continue. Roping the wrong critter will also count as a “miss”.
5. Two Ropers Head If two ropers head the same critter, only one loop can be used to hold the critter. In the Big Loop, it will count as 3 points regardless of shot thrown. One roper must drop his or her loop with no further penalty, but second rope must be pulled before time is called.
6. Deep Rope If critter is roped deep, as a safety measure the rope can be dropped (NOT LOST) by the header, the shot counts as a miss. Anything roped deep on the headshot that goes around the cows belly is an illegal headshot and must be pulled. You can catch heels to pull the rope, but then the animal must be released and roped again with a legal head catch. You may not hold feet prior to making a legal head catch.
7. Back-In Shot Is considered to be any loop that does not come in between the front and back feet, and the animal is moved in a backwards motion into the loop. A back-in shot will only be worth 3 points in scored Loop.
8. Qualified Catch A loop must leave a ropers hand to count.
9. Single High Hock Dally No dally on a single high hock. A dally on a high hock will count as a 10 second penalty/5 point loss.
10. Judges Decision is FINAL.
11. Loping Loping is only permitted to hold rodear, avoid a wreck, or for header to gain control. No running critters down! 10 second/3 point penalty will apply for each occurrence.
12. Improper Handling This includes but is not limited to riding off on a single foot, choking, dragging, stirring, or hitting critter when it is down. Up to 20 second/10 point penalty will apply at judges discretion.
13. Lost Rope Lost rope in the Big Loop portion will result in a minus 2 point penalty. Rope must be retrieved in Team Doctoring event.
14. Fourth Team Member/Assisting Ground Crew Can only be used for persons with a valid physical handicap/limitation. Doctors note or other evidence must be presented at check in. Person assisting must remain in designated area until critter is stretched.
15. Control of Ground Man's’ horse Loss of control will result in penalty at judges discretion up to +10 seconds/- 5 points (loss of contact does not constitute loss of control).
16. Unsportsmanlike Conduct- Any unsportsmanlike conduct, deemed so by the board or judge, will result in a penalty. 10 seconds / 5 points each occurrence.
17. Gear Traditional gear only. No tie-downs or rubber; slick horns (leather wrap) only. Neck ropes/Get-downs are not required but encouraged.
18. Front Feet An additional 3 points will be given if BOTH front feet are caught and critter is laid down. If a single foot is caught or a foot is slipped when laying down, no additional points will be given and it will count as a miss (-1 point).
19. Missing Cattle Number In the event a team cannot find their designated number, all team members must turn away from the herd and return to the gate. Time will stop and the judge will review the pen. If the Judge determines the number is missing, a new number will be given and time will restart for the run. If the number is found, time will resume from when it was stopped.
